Kosovo was accepted as a member of UEFA on Tuesday, becoming the 55th member of European football’s governing body at  the annual congress held in Budpest. The vote was close, with 28 votes for and 24 against Kosovo's membership, while two votes were declared invalid.

Opening the congress, Hungary's Prime Minister Orban Viktor said that after decades of hopelessness, over the past few years Hungarians have made unprecedented efforts to bring about a revival of soccer.

Angel Maria Villar, the vice-president of the UEFA and former Spanish footballer said, that Hungary is a real football nation, where the first man of the country is also a fan. So it is not surprising, that recently two UEFA and FIFA congresses were held in Budapest, he said.

In his speech to the delegates FIFA's recently elected President Gianni Infantino has urged European football leaders to provide money to poorer federations from the increased funds they get from Zurich.
