On Sunday Hungarian authorities found the body of 40-year old Ofir Gross, an Israeli citizen, who was reported missing last week in a small town in Central Hungary. Two local young men are suspects of the murder of the backpacker.
Police arrested two local persons, aged 21 and 19, main suspects in the killing of Ofir Gross, whose body was found in a forest in Tiszakécske, a small town not far from Kecskemét in Central Hungary. Gross had last contacted his family on Thursday. The 40-year old, a resident of Jerusalem, had gone to Hungary on a trip after finishing his studies in medical engineering, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Hungarian tabloid Blikk reported on Monday that one of the suspects, 21-year old Károly N., who has been in prision for burglary and has just been released, was under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime. The tabloid, citing locals, said, Gross was killed in his sleep. The 21-year old suspect possibly faces a mandatory sentence of life without parole as a recidivist.
Authorities are investigating how the two locals got into contact with the Israeli man.
Israeli authorities delivered the announcement of death of Gross to his family, who are traveling to Hungary to identify the body.
