Taxi drivers caused traffic chaos again, taking the streets of Budapest. Their demonstration centered around one of the city's favourite landmarks, Elizabeth Bridge.
The demonstration started during the morning rush hours. Taxis got together around 8 AM and drove from Heroes Square to Saint Gellert Square, causing a huge traffic around the city. They blocked one lane of the Elizabeth Bridge that is a main passing point between the Danube's Buda and Pest sides, in addition to its landmark status.
It's been the sixth taxi demonstration since the begging of this year. According to taxi drivers, Uber drivers still operate against the law and the Hungarian government isn't effective enough to make them increasing fares and meeting straighter requirements. Taxi drivers also gave a petition to the Minister of Interior Sandor Pinter to ask for more efficient measurements against Uber.
In the meantime, angry Budapest residents use Facebook to organize a counter-demonstration, aiming no one use taxis on 1 June.
