There is no massive inflow of German citizens to the Lake Balaton area, index.hu writes, refuting a report aired on German public radio that claimed Germans are moving into Hungary in mass numbers due to the discontempt for their government's asylum policy.
The Munich-based Bayerische Rundfunk (BR) aired a report on Thursday that suggested there is an influx of Germans to Hungary, namely the Lake Balaton region because they are dissatisfied with their government's handling of the migrant crisis. An elderly couple in the report argued for settling in Hungary, because "it is a Christinan country and there are hardly any migrants”.
Real estate agencies operating in the area of the lake told news website index.hu that they had not witnessed a surge in demand for properties in the region. Ottthon Centrum and Duna House, the two leading real estate agencies in Hugnary said Germans are selling property in the town of Balatonfüred. In Keszthely, the western shore of the lake there has been scarce interest by German buyers, but not to the extend suggested by the BR report. The property boom has not spilled over to Lake Balaton area as the market is still supply-driven, as many mortgage-debtors trying to get rid of their properties.
