Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto stated Thursday that there's no need for border control on the Austrian-Hungarian border, so the Austrian spot-check are unnecessary.
“There is a need for border control along the Hungarian-Serbian and Serbian-Croatian borders, not along the Hungarian-Austrian border; what Austria is doing is unnecessary”, Mr. Szijjarto declared, adding that Austria should rather in protecting external borders “if it truly wants to protect the Schengen Area”.
Due the Austrian spot-checks, drivers on the M1 motorway, Hungary's busiest one, has been experiencing traffic jams since last Sunday. The longest traffic occurred Tuesday when divers had to wait in a 24 km long traffic to cross the border.
