The European Commission is not accepting the concept of transit zones on the Hungarian border, and failed to reach a compromise with the Hungarian government, who was willing to accommodate minors in youth camps.
Negotiations haven't brought any results so far, so the government doesn't plan to change the rules of immigration, according to the Government Information Centre (KTK). If the European Commission decides to start a legal procedure, the government is ready for the legal fight, they added. According to the KTK the government has been negotiating with the European Commission about the Hungarian legal framework of immigration and the most important issue for Hungary is to keep the transit zones, because they ensure the safety of the Hungarian citizens. Representatives of the Commission criticised the Hungarian immigration rules, the transit zones and also the border fence. Hungary is ready to accommodate asylum seekers under 18 in closed youth camps, instead of the transit zones, if they are willing o undergo DNA tests to prove their age. This compromise was however not enough for the Commission, the KTK added.
