It’s been 45 years since the screening of Love by Karoly Makk in Cannes. The Jury Prize winner film returns at the 69th Festival de Cannes in a restored 4K version in the Cannes Classics section
Cannes Classics sidebar screens restored prints, many of which will come to theaters and be released on Blu-ray/DVD. It pays a particular attention to restored versions of classic movies and celebrates filmmakers, and showcases documentaries about cinema. As Karoly Makk with the Jury Prize with Love in 1971, it was a perfect choice to celebrate the film’s 45th with a 4K screening. Love is a well-known masterpiece of the Hungarian cinema, it depicts human relationships against of a dictatorial political climate.
The 90-year-old Karoly Makk personally greeted the movie viewers before the first screening, wearing a 45-years-old tux, the very one he wore at the premiere of Love in 1971.
Love was digitized and restored in Focus-Fox Studio and the Hungarian Filmlab, in association with the Hungarian Academy of Arts, MaNDA and the initiative of the Hungarian National Film Fund. It will premiere for the second time in French cinemas soon after the Festival ends.
