General Debate on Budget Begins

Budget reserves beefed up to HUF 200 billion

Next year's budget will be the year of predictability and security - National Economy Minister Mihály Varga said in his expose to the 2017 budget before Parliament's two-day general debate began. Both the budget council and the state audit council found the budget's foundations realistic and justified. 

In next year's budget, the following macroeconomic figures were set: 0.9% consumer price index, 2.4% budget deficit 71.9% of GDP stte debt. Spending for the operation of the state will not exceed revenues.

There are HUF 200 billion set aside in reserves. The family tax allowance for families with two children will be raised by HUF 15 000 a month. VAT on fresh milk, egg an poultry will be cut to 5% and pay for law enforcement staff and state officials will be raised.

The heads of Budget Office and the State Audit Office both have okayed the the projections serving the foundation for the 2017 budget

Opposition parties however blasted the government for spending on such items as stadium constuctions and the costs of relocating the government's offices to the Castle District.
