The Eurovision Song Contest changed its rules this year to create a more exciting broadcast. According to the American data journalism site, FiveThirtyEight, Australia would have won, instead of Ukraine, if the contest had kept last year's ranking system.

FiveThirtyEight reports that lots of countries would have finished in a very different position based on last year's system. The biggest winners are Poland and Malta, with 11 and 12 places respectively, whereas Hungary lost five places, and finished in 19th place instead of 14th.
