Nobody, not even former U.S. President Bill Clinton should feel he can insult Hungarians, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in reaction to comments by Clinton’s comments on Friday about Hungary, in which he called the country’s leadership “authoritarian”.
It is unacceptable for someone to belittle the fight for freedom of the people of Hungary in this manner. He emphasised that Mr. Clinton must surely know that the people of Hungary have decided on Hungary’s future in democratic parliamentary elections.
Speaking at a campaign event for her wife on Friday, former US President Bill Clinton was making his case to compare Republican candidate Donald Trump with Central European countries.
“Just give me an authoritarian dictatorship and keep the foreigners out, sound familiar?”, Clinton said. Hungary and Poland would not be free today without the United States and the long cold war, he insisted.
