Morgan Johansson, Sweden's minister responsible for migration told press agency TT on Friday that Sweden will summon Hungary's ambassador, Lilla Makkay to Stockholm next week over her country's refusal to take back migrants who first registered in Hungary. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has rejected his remarks . Mr Szijjártó called Johansson's criticism strange and unacceptable. He said Hungary's stance on taking back illegal migrants remains unchanged. "We will only take back those who first entered the European Union through Hungary," Szijjártó insisted. The minister said Hungary will not take back any of the "hundreds of thousands" of "Middle Eastern illegal migrants" who had passed through at least another EU country before entering Hungary. "We protect our border which is also the external border of the European Union, meaning that right now Hungary is also protecting Sweden," he added.
"It seems that Johansson is a couple of years late as the Dublin regulation has long been out out of action and currently the only country that actually respected the agreement about European border protection is now being punished", Kent Ekeroth, an MP of the Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna) told Magyar Hírlap. "Given that Sweden and Germany accomplished the migration influx that began last year, it would be more appropriate to be a little more humble", he added. The deputy emphasised that Sweden should show solidarity with other European countries and its own people by stopping to attract illegal migrants, assisting external border control and initiating a generous repatriation program for those who come to Sweden illegally".
