Consumer prices rose 0.2% year-on-year in April and were up 0.8% from March, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) announced on Tuesday. Analysts estimated negative inflation for last month.
Food prices grew 0.9% in April, with sugar prices rising 19.5%, while pork prices dropped 17.8%, the price of milk 9.2% and cheese prices 5.1%, according to data by KSH. Alcoholic beverage and tobacco prices were up 2.3%, services 1.6%, consumer durables 1% and clothing and footwear 0.3% on average, KSH added. On the negative side, the price of motor fuel dropped 10.8%, while the price of electricity, gas and other fuels was down by 0.1%.
Inflation pressure remains low, said the National Economy Ministry. Analyst project average annual inflation to be near 0.5% in 2016.
