The foreign affairs committee of the European Parliament backed Oliver Varhelyi’s candidacy with a two-thirds majority as required for his approval as commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy.
After Hungary's commissioner-designate failed to convince the committee during his first hearing last Thursday, he had to answer further written questions.
"What an honor to become part of team Ursula von der Leyen! For stronger Europe together!", Varhelyi reacted on Twitter.
