FM Péter Szijjarto talked to Die Welt about EU integration, migration policies and expectations regarding the new US administration.
Germany is our most important economic and political partner, which serves as a compass in foreign policy, but we see the issue of illegal migration differently, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade told German newspaper Die Welt. Mr Szijjártó said that relations between Russia and the EU should be normalised, because Central Europe loses every time there is a conflict between the East and the West.
He reminded that Hungary has been saying for two years that illegal migration is a danger to Europe, the external borders should be protected to ensure that Europe can only be entered legally. Mr Szijjártó added that the plans to introduce a mandatory migration quote should be abandoned, because otherwise we are encouraging immigration.
