Unlike Italy, Hungary can protect itself from fiscal deficit and illegal immigration, but we know it's difficult and we only ask Mr Renzi to respect the rules – Hungary's FM Peter Szijjarto said.

”We understand Matteo Renzi's unrest, because Italy suffers from fiscal deficit and illegal immigration at the same time. Hungary can protect itself from both, but we know that it's not an easy task”, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Szijjarto reacted to the Italian Prime Minister's criticism. Mr Renzi reminded Hungary's PM Viktor Orban that Italy is not only a net contributor to the EU, but also one of the countries which stood up to guarantee the freedom of those who lost it. Mr Szijjarto said that Hungarians are a freedom fighter nation who, during their fights could mostly only rely on themselves. The Foreign Minister emphasized that the EU's cohesion funds are not charity, Hungary has opened its markets where Italian companies can also earn a lot. ”We only ask Italy to respect the European agreements and protect its border from illegal immigration”, he added.
