Technically it's impossible to suspend a law in Hungary, but the government is ready to negotiate about the higher education act.
"According to the Hungarian legal order, laws can't be suspended", the deputy group leader of Hungarian ruling party Fidesz reacted to the words of Mark Toner, spokesperson of the US State Department, who urged the Hungarian government to suspend the amendment of the higher education law which also affects CEU. Gergely Gulyás stressed that the government is fully open to negotiations about the law and they hope that when the US federal government will actually know the details of the law, they will understand that all it needs is a conceptual approval, agreement between the governments.
