The number of unemployed people fell by 38,000 to 281,000 in the October-December period, 2015, the KSH annnounced. Employment at the same time rose 118,000 to 4.26 million, a 25-year high.
In the period of October-December, the number of 15–74 year-old unemployed men dropped by 25,000 to 146,000, and their unemployment rate by 1.2 percentage points to 5.9%, while the number of unemployed women was down by 13,000 to 135,000, and their unemployment rate by 0.7 percentage points to 6.5%.
The number of people aged 15-74 years in employment rose by 118,000 year-on-year, to a total of 4.26 million. More than half of growth came from public work jobs.The employment rate of those aged 15-64 years rose by 2.2 percentage points over the past one year, to 64.8 percent.
Analysts expect the unemployment rate to fall further in 2016 to 6.5% from 6.8% in the previous year.
