US Ambassador Receives Commander's Cross

Bilateral relations developed since Colleen Bell arrived, says FM

Ambassador Colleen Bell received state decoration, emphasised importance of cooperation and common values.

Outgoing US Ambassador to Hungary, Colleen Bell has been awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary on Tuesday, presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó. The Minister, who initiated the decoration to President János Áder, said that Mrs Bell arrived in Budapest two years ago, in a period which was not the best era of US-Hungarian bilateral relations but the situation has changed to a great extent. He called the ambassador a good friend of Hungary and emphasised the importance of mutual respect and dialogue.

Colleen Bell said that the transatlantic community has been experiencing many challenges, stressed the importance of the alliance, joint work and common values. She thanked the minister and the MFA for their cooperation and also expressed appreciation for the stuff of the US embassy.
