Trade Surplus Narrows in March

Exports outpaced imports by €2.5 billion in first quarter

Hungary’s trade surplus dropped €58 million to €952 million in March compared with the same period a year earlier, the statistical office KSH announced in its preliminary report. 

Export volume decreased by 3.5% to €8 billion and imports by 3.2% to €7.1 billion.,

The export of machinery and transport equipment fell 2.7% and  2% in imports, KSH said. Vehicle exports were down 10% and  import volume stagnated.

The export and import volumes of manufactured goods were up by 2% and 5%, respectively. The export volume of food, beverages and tobacco decreased by 4.9% and the import volume increased by 3%, KSH said.

The trade surplus narrowed to 2.46 billion in the first quarter, compared with 2.58 billion a year earlier.
