The tourism industry closed a record year in 2015 with the number of guests rising to an all-time high of 10.35 million, National Economy Minister Mihály Varga announced.
Guest nights in Hungary rose by 1.3% to 1,5 million in December. Nights spent by Hungarians increased by 6.4% to 773,000 and nights spent by foreign guests were down 3.6% at 734,000. For the full year, the number of guest nights rose to 25.7 million, an increase of 5.4%. Guest nights by foreign visitors rose 4.6% to 12.9 million, while that of domestic clients went up 6.4% to 12.85 million.
Revenues of commercial lodgings reached 26.2 billion forints in December, up 4.9% from the same month a year earlier and for the full-year it increased to HUF 368 billion. Holiday card holders spent HUF 90.2 billion with the Szép-cards.
The share of tourisms within the GDP now exceeds 9% up from 7% a few years ago, commented Mr. Varga.
