The incidents happening across the metro network are not connected despite claims by the opposition, says István Tarlós.
Budapest mayor István Tarlós dismissed the charges of the opposition parties who say that problems were with the metro are systemic. He told a debate in the general assembly that “there is no general metro issue”, and attempts were being made to conflate the various incidents. He insisted there were three separate problems and the consequences of two had not been serious. Mr Tarlós rejected the opposition parties’ proposals concerning the revamp of the M3 line as well as their demand to establish an investigative committee to examine the operational problems of the network.
The debate started because on Wednesday the morning services on M3 were disrupted due to a malfunction and on Monday an accident on the second line resulted in several serious injuries.
