Hungary and Poland wants to be an initiative role in the debate about Europe's future, the president of the Hungarian parliament said.
László Kövér, president of the Hungarian parliament met the president of the Polish Senate, Stanislaw Karczewski in Budapest on Monday. According to Mr Kövér everyone in Europe feels that the EU, as a value community and political community reached a critical turning point. There are serious signs of crisis in economy, democratic development and institutional affairs. It's time for a serious debate about what kind of Europe we want for our children and grandchildren, he said, adding that Hungary and Poland wants to initiate this debate. The importance of Central Europe is growing, the Visegrád Four is the most dynamically developing region of the EU and this must have political consequences too. „The time when Central Europe had to accept dictates from Brussels or other old member states is over”, Mr Kövér emphasised.
