According to the government spokesman, those who try to misinterpret the final document of the meeting of the European Council, don't understand the decision making mechanism of the EU.
Zoltán Kovács told Hungarian news agency MTI on Saturday, that opposition parties don't understand or deliberately want to misinterpret the meeting of the European Council. The spokesman reacted to criticism by opposition parties DK, MSZP and Jobbik.
Kovács emphasised that the document was referring to the decision made last summer about a voluntary quota to distribute 40.000 people and Hungary never voted for the mandatory quota. Hungary's position is the same, mandatory quota is out of question, the current migration policy of the EU has failed and this is why the Visegrad Four proposed a plan based on the protection of borders, he added.
According to Kovács this is the first time when the European Council accepted the Hungarian position, that the most important task is to protect the European borders and nobody can enter Europe illegally.
