The dangers arising from plans to reform the Dublin asylum rules and the mandatory distribution of asylum seekers within the European Union are far from over and "we are far from being able to relax", a government official said after a meeting in Brussels of European affairs ministers, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
Szabolcs Takacs, state secretary at the prime minister's office, told MTI late on Monday that it was welcome that the European Commission appeared to be taking the view that tackling the sources of migration should be given high priority when dealing with the crisis, but, he added, efforts were still under way to pursue a system for relocating migrants within the EU, which the Hungarian government finds "unacceptable".
Referring to talks in the European Parliament last week, the state secretary said it was a serious problem that "several member states have argued that a mandate for compulsory relocations could be made by a qualified majority". "This is completely contrary to the decision of the EU heads of state and government, namely that the only acceptable asylum system is one that is acceptable to all member states".
