The Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference invited Pope Francis to the International Eucharistic Congress.
Pope Francis has been invited to the International Eucharistic Congress Hungary is to host in 2020, Bishop Andras Veres, head of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference (MKPK), told MTI in Rome. The 19-member delegation of the MKPK paying an ad limina visit to the Vatican this week met the pontiff on Monday.
Veres noted the pope's advanced years and suggested the possibility "that he cannot attend the event personally". He added, however, that in that case "we can take it for granted that the Vatican will be represented at the highest possible level." The ad limina visit focussed on Hungary's plan to be the first country in Europe to introduce masses to be celebrated in the Roma community's Lovari language within a year and a half, Bishop Janos Szekely of Szombathely said.
