Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto answered the EP President Martin Schultz's interview in Ostthüringer Zeitung by saying EU citizens must be asked about their opinion on migration influx.

“The compulsory resettlement quota would change Europe’s social, cultural, ethnic and religious make-up; a decision on such a serious issue cannot be made without asking the people”, Mr Szijjarto said as his answer to Mr Schultz's comment on Hungary when he blamed the for the failure of the EU-Turkey summit. According to Mr Schultz, the Hungarian referendum on quotas won't be useful for the EU management of the migration crisis.

In the meantime, Mr Szijjarto said “the people of Hungary have the right to decide who they want to live with”, adding people must be helped within the crisis regions, not shipped over to Europe.
