The reinforcement of the legal border closure closes the loopholes which previously enabled anyone to stay in the territory of Hungary illegally.
”We are protecting not only Hungary’s borders, but also those of the European Union, in order to prevent the recurrence of acts of terrorism such as those we have experienced in recent months”, the Prime Minister’s senior advisor for internal security stated at his press conference on Tuesday. According to György Bakondi the purpose of the reinforcement of the legal border closure is to close the loopholes which previously enabled anyone to stay in the territory of Hungary illegally.
Regarding the legislation that entered into force as of Tuesday, he said: no one may enter Hungary illegally. According to the provisions of the legislation, migrants arriving from the direction of Serbia are required to await the assessment of their asylum applications on a final and absolute basis in the transit zone, and illegal border-crossers will be transported to the transit zone not only from within 8 kilometres of the border, but from the entire territory of the country.
