The closure of the Balkans route and the EU-Turkey agreement slowed down the migration to Europe according to the Hungarian PM's adviser.
Compared to the previous year, the intensity of migration into Europe diminished in 2016 according to the Hungarian Prime Minister's chief security adviser, Gyorgy Bakondi. He told a news conference that the closure of the Balkans migrant route, the agreement between the European Union and Turkey and “defence measures taken by nation states” are the main reasons for the slowdown. Mr Bakondi stressed that the migration policies of Hungary are becoming more and more accepted in the EU, such as stricter border controls and the implementation of technical blockades.
