Hungary won't take back migrants as, according to officials, they didn't enter the Schengen area in Hungary. “Greece was the first country where they stepped on the EU soil, so refugees have to go back there”, said Janos Lazar, the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office.
It was already announced that 40000 claims on expelling back migrants to Hungary had been submitted in the last few days. Hungarian officials believe there's no chance for migrants to enter the EU in Hungary unless they already did in Greece. So migrants should be sent there and not to Hungary. As Mr Lazar phrased it “we won't take back any refugees who already stepped into the Schengen area in Greece.”
He also added that Hungary is more than happy to help real refugees who can be let into the country anytime via legal crossing points.
