Hungary intends to keep its key role in the Chinese-Central European cooperation, said officials at the Hungarian-Chinese Joint Economic Committee that hold a session to discuss the economic relations between the two countries in Budapest Monday.
“Hungary is still the flagship of Chinese-Central European cooperation and does not intend to allow this to change in future”, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto adding that China has become Hungary’s 10th most important trade partner.
He also talked about the increasing Hungarian exports to China that exceeded EUR 1.61bn last year. Hungary has a license to export agriculture and the food industry product to China, in the largest amount in the CEE region.
Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce and ministerial-level International Trade Representative Zhong Shan stressed that both, Hungary and China, should be proud to the increasing Chinese investments in Hungary. Last year it exceeded USD 3bn, the highest amount among the Central-European countries. “It's important to increase the current volume of trade and investment”, Mr Shan said.
Most recently two Chinese automobile industry suppliers will invest a total of EUR 30 million in Hungary to create 600 new vacancies.
