Minister János Lázár discussed Hungary's migration policy and the US presidential elections too at his regular press conference.
The residency bond program can be canceled already by the end of the year, the Minister Heading the Prime Minister's Office, János Lázár said at his weekly press conference. The parliament voted on Tuesday about Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's constitutional amendment proposition against the mandatory resettlement of non-Hungarian citizens into Hungary, but the government failed to have the two-third majority. Right-wing opposition party Jobbik didn't support the amendment because the government hadn't fulfill it's prerequisite about canceling the residency bond program. Mr Lázár was now asked whether the parliament will vote about the amendment when the government will have canceled the program, but he said ”this is not a kindergarten” and the European Council will make decisions about migration already in December.
Hungary will fight against the pro-migration policies at the next EU summit in December, he said, adding that the amendment would have been an important weapon in this struggle, but it was prevented by opposition parties who preferred their ”own, petty interests”. Mr Lázár said that whatever happens after this, is the responsibility of the opposition.
Regarding the US presidential election Mr Lázár said that the Hungarian government expects the beginning of a better world from the new president of the USA. ”The government hopes that there can be a fair partnership between the two countries”, he added. Mr Lázár said that Hungary had some debates with the USA, but not with its people, just the Democratic Party, who lectured Hungary about the values the country should be governed by. He added that those who wanted to understand the USA from the press this year, failed, because the press has lost its ability to inform people about reality and instead started to actively form reality.
