Hungary Celebrates 20th Anniversary of OECD Membership

Best practices were used, experiences were changed, says officials

Hungary celebrates its 20th anniversary as an OECD member. Since then, the country has utilized lots of OECD best practices and enriched the organization with its experiences, said Secretary of State for Financial Affairs and OECD National Commission President Agnes Hornung to welcome the special session OECD in Budapest.

The event celebrated Hungary's 20 years of OECD membership. “In 1996, six years after the political and economic regime change in Hungary, the OECD made a gesture towards Hungary by accepting Hungary as member of the international organization, thus acknowledging the significance and power of the country’s historic step as well as our commitment to the values of Western democracies”, Ms Hornung said adding that participating in the work of an international community made Hungary able to gradually join a global knowledge base.

Hungary also published a booklet to discribe cooperation between Hungary and the OECD durring the past two decades.
