Minister of Defence Istvan Simicsko commemorated 1956 revolution at the Hungarian Embassy in Vienna, stating that the Hungarians have paid the price of their freedom, and they want to defend and preserve this freedom.

Mr Simicsko emphasized that Hungarians would also like to make the decisions alone about the fate and future of the country, just like the Austrians. Plus, the events of 1956 teaches that freedom cannot be received as a gift. He thanked the Austrians for having received “with friendship” in 1956 the about 180,000 Hungarians who arrived in Austria from Hungary, many of whom found their new homeland there.
