Almost half of the Hungarians oppose the EU sanctions against Russia and the vast majority wants balanced relations according to new polls.
According to a poll conducted by the Nézőpont Institute, 47% of the Hungarians oppose the anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union and only 33 % supports them. Voters of the ruling Fidesz oppose them the most (58%), while voters of the green-left opposition party, LMP agree with them the most. According to the poll 63% think that Vladimir Putin's visit to Budapest is advantageous for Hungary, while only 20% find it disadvantageous.
Another poll, conducted by the Századvég Foundation, concluded that the vast majority of the Hungarians, 75% think that Hungary should have pragmatic, mutually advantageous and balanced relations with Russia. 18% want a friendly relationship and 5% think that Hungary shouldn't talk to Moscow at all.
The foundation also asked the Hungarians about the three most influential politicians of the world. 35% have a positive and 44% have a negative opinion about Vladimir Putin. About Donald Trump 27% have a positive opinion and 38% reject him, while 26% like Angela Merkel and 64% have a negative opinion about her - this makes the German chancellor by far the most rejected of the three major politicians.
