Heineken Romania accepts the coexistence of the Ciuc and Csíki brand names and agrees to allow Lixid Project to market the Csíki brand.

Heineken's Romanian unit and the Lixid Project microbrewery said on Monday that they intend to settle their dispute over the use of the Ciuc and Csíki beer brands. As part of the settlement between Heineken and Lixid Project, Heineken Romania accepts the coexistence of the Ciuc and Csíki brand names and agrees to allow Lixid Project to market the Csiki brand. The announcement comes one day after the Minister Heading the Hungarian PM's Office, János Lázár visited the Csíki Sör factory and encouraged both parties to agree out of court. He said the government is ready to help Hungarian companies in discussions with multinational companies who abuse their power.

A Romanian court in January upheld a ruling prohibiting the microbrewery from marketing its product as Igazi Csíki Sör (Real Csíki Beer) because Heineken already owns the locally-brewed “Ciuc” brand, which is “Csíki” in Romanian.
