Hungary has credible arguments against the EU quota system which generates “a good chance of challenging the EU quota system in the European Court of Justice (ECJ), said Minister of Justice Laszlo Trocsanyi to the Hungarian business weekly review Figyelo.

The Hungarian arguments are mostly based on an EU law that emphasize the Member States' national sovereignty. According to Mr Trocsanyi it also guarantees the right of deciding who a country would like to admit into its territory.

He noted that the case will make a “dangerous” precedent as the ECJ has never had to handle anything similar. Mr Trocsanyi also added that the future decision will guide the EU on the question whether it can impose regulations with a majority vote or it needs to find consensus.
