According to the governing party opposition media is alive and well, so it's not clear, from whom were the demonstrators demanding the freedom of the press.
The mass media and press in Hungary is a lot more diverse than in Western European countries, the deputy group leader of Fidesz, Gergely Gulyás reacted to the demonstration of opposition parties Együtt and LMP. He noted that it's not clear, whom the demonstration for free press is targeting. Mr Gulyás emphasised that, judging by the available information, an economic decision lead to the closure of opposition newspaper Népszabadság. ”In this regard the government has nothing to do with this”, he added. Mr Gulyás reminded that there are still two daily newspapers in Hungary which can be considered opposition, not to mention tv channels.
