The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced an import ban on drugs made at Israeli owned Teva's plant in Gödöllő, Hungary.
The ban does not include two drugs that are medically necessary and currently in short supply in the US. Those two drugs are the infection treatment Amikacin and the chemotherapy Bleomycin.
The Hungarian Institute of Pharmacy (OGYI) said Teva has voluntarily shut down production based on the findings of FDA officials, who checked the plant in January and found manufacturing practice violations.
Teva drugs available on the market are safe, the FDA made complaints on the production processes, OGYI director Csilla Pozsgay said.
