Reacting to the Austrian chancellor's remarks, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that the EU wants to punish countries that do not want to allow entry to illegal immigrants.
Speaking to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on Wednesday, Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern said that EU funding for Hungary and Poland should be reduced if they contravene EU regulations. At a press conference in Budapest on Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said that there is a war underway in Europe against countries that are refusing to accept illegal immigrants, and this war has two instruments: legal and financial threats. There exists a “Soros plan” concerning how to use threats to convince countries to accept migrants, he added.
“With his statement, the Austrian Chancellor has joined those left-wing, liberal politicians who support this plan, and has declared that he wants to take away the funding that is due in accordance with the EU treaties”, Mr. Szijjártó stressed. He also reminded that no other country is showing more solidarity with Austria than Hungary, because by protecting the EU’S external border, Hungary is also protecting Austria.
