According to Gyorgy Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, it's still necessary to protect the EU’s borders.
Experts say that as the West Balkans route is closed, migrants might start to look for an alternative route through Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary. Mr Bakondi stressed that “Hungary will fulfill its obligations to protect its own borders and those of the Schengen Area”.
Currently, there are 50,000 migrants in Greece, but many other were left stranded in Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia, especially in Idomeni on the Greek-Macedonian border.
