Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto participated in the informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers in Amsterdam, stressing his view on “the realistic chance that current EU migration policy will lead to disaster”.
According to Mr Szijjarto the EU misunderstands the crisis with “ongoing fruitless debates on immigration” concerning principles, but “the situation is extremely serious and we should finally begin focusing on protecting people”.
He also added that further increase in migration pressure can be expected as the situation in Syria has remained the same. So the EU takes a huge risk by making “a theoretical debate”.
“V4 is able to provide a solution”, he said. “If a Macedonian-Bulgarian line of defense is successfully established at the V4 summit on 15 February, it will solve the currently unprotected situation at the EU's southern borders.”
