Less conditions, more possibilities – BKK changed its penalty fare rules to be more customer friendly.

Budapest transport company BKK made three major changes in its penalty fare rules. If the passenger pays the penalty fare in cash on the spot, the amount to be paid decreases from HUF16,000 to HUF 8,000. Starting from May, the customer has two working days to pay this fare. BKK decided to change its policy, because it's still not possible to pay by bank card on the spot. In case the passenger has a pass and a related ID that was valid at the time of control having been purchased before, but was not presented or if the passenger has a travel document for free travel but it was not presented at control, the customer can take care of penalty fare payment within 5, instead of 2 workdays from the issuance of the penalty fare. So far, the latter option of presenting their pass was available to the customer only if he or she has no current debt due to a previous violation, but from May there is no such condition.
