The government ordered a national day of grief for Sunday to mourn for the victims of the attacks in Paris, and ruling Fidesz party postponed its congress originally scheduled for that day, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced. Decisions to tighten control of borders and step up police presence were taken after an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Cabinet on Saturday.

The country's defence has been elevated, which will be visible for citizens in the in transport junctions, railway stations and airports, he added. " I ask people to be understanding and patient, as these measures are important for strengthening their safety", he the Prime Minister stressed.
Commenting on the postponing of their congress, Orbán said that the partys congress is always a celebration, and in such a situation one can not celebrate.
Answering a question whether Hungary is at a terror threat, the prime minister said that currently there is no data available, which would indicate that there is a direct threat, but this can change any time. There is no absolute safe situation, we need to establish the biggest safety in the current circumstances. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also expressed his deep shock on the brutal terror attack in Paris and said Hungary is feeling for the French nation.
