The number of new passenger car registrations in Hungary saw a year-on-year growth of 14.1% to 5,567 in January, the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) announced on Monday.

The double-digit growth is probably the impact of year-ends sales. Three-four months are needed to estimate the possible trends for the year, the MGE said, adding that this year, non-corporate clients could return to the market. The overwhelming majority of new cars are sold to businesses. In the first month of the year, 1,308 small vans were sold, a 3.4% year-on-year increase, helped by the National Bank's lending programme. There is still a strong inflow of imported second hand carss, the average age of which is 11 years, according to the report.
