Due to radical decline in financial aid given by Budapest City Council, it has been a topic of wide speculations whether the Budapest Festival Orchestra will be able to travel abroad. According to the Sunday announcement, only one concert will be cancelled.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will finance the Orchestra's Baltic tour, so Budapest Festival Orchestra can finance other concerts abroad. It will be able to play at prestigious festivals in Vilnius, Riga, Saint Petersburg and Ravenna.
The cancelled event will be a Hungarian one, the Orchestra would have played in Mupa, conducted by Dmitri Kitayenko. As the concert is cancelled, people may ask refund or change ticket for another concert.
