Bavarian PM Horst Seehofer met Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban Friday to discuss migration issues.
At a joint press conference after the meeting, PM Orban stressed that they didn’t come together to “undermine the German government and Chancellor Angela Merkel”, reflecting the SPD chairman Sigmar Gabriel’s previous comment. He also added that Hungary is “interested in the success of the CSU and the CDU” and in “a strong German government and a strong German Chancellor”.
Mr Orban thanked Seehofer for not being prejudiced towards Hungary’s problems during the migration crisis. He stated that nowadays, two kinds of Europe can be found, one that kept the law and the European contracts and one that didn’t. “We can easily agree with one another with PM Seehofer, because Bavarian and Hungary believe in keeping contracts”, he added.
Mr Seehofer also mentioned that restoring “law and order” would be very important. “Success involves lowering the numbers of migrants coming to Europe over the long term”, he said, adding that countries defending the EU external borders of should not be left alone. “Bavaria backs strict national border control until the amount of migrants will be lowered”, Seehofer noted.
Both prime ministers hoped for a successful summit in Turkey starting Monday. “We know it will take some money. And Hungary will pay the amount that country has to pay for Turkey”, Mr Orban stated. Mr Seehofer added that a controlled system must be established for migration that can be an itinerary both EU countries and migrants.
