Austria's Freedom Party praises Hungary for protecting its borders

Heinz-Christian Strache has broken all records of the interview magazine Sommergespräch on ORF, as one million people watched the president of the Austrian Freedom Party.

Immigration was one of the most discussed topics of the show and also a central issue in FPÖ's campaign for the local elections in Upper-Austria and Vienna (where Strache himself is running for the mayor's seat). Strache described the situation in Austria as "drastic and tragic", emphasizing that in 2013 70 percent of all asylum applications were turned down, so the majority of the crowd has no right of asylum, but is driven by financial motivations. He added that he feels empathy towards them, but Austria can't facilitate everyone. There are dramatic problems in many regions of the world, said Strache, warning that the real reasons must be found and the responsibles named: the Americans, the NATO, who contributed to the chaos but backs out from responsibility. Regarding border control, he said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, unlike for example Greece or Italy, respects the law of the EU and protects its external borders, the Hungarian-Serbian border where the human trafficking mafia has been active.

"By protecting its borders Hungary goes in the right direction and Austria should follow its example to fight smugglers", Norbert Hofer, third president of the National Council told Magyar Hírlap. The politician praised that Burgenland's social democratic governor (who is in coalition with FPÖ) urges border control. The cooperation of SPÖ and FPÖ enables a consequent line in the interest of the state. Hofer is critical about the decision of the government and the Greens to decide about refugee camps without the states and regarding the Viennese local elections, he said that the current local leadership will be changed, as FPÖ tops all the polls and if the Burgenland-model works, it can be a model for other states too.
