All measures must be deployed against terrorists, Minister of Defence István Simicskó said in a television interview, defending the governments new anti-terror proposal, saying measures will be proportional.
In the wake of the Brussels terrorist attacks, the government quickly announced that a new anti-terror proposal is being drafted, which would allow authorities to monitor calls, phone and internet messages and peek into the bank accounts of people. The legislation, which requires a two-third majority, would also call on service providers to unlock apprehended encrypted devices for national security purposes. Opposition parties voiced concern over the draft, saying it will give unlimited power to the cabinet for 60 days.
The Interior Ministry also recommended the increasing the number of staff, equipment and technological developments to fight terror activities, and to enhance the Counter Terrorism Center (TEK).
To enhance the flow and share of information between secret services and authorities a new anti-terror information centre will be established, Mr. Simicskó said in an interview to commercial television channel Tv2.
Hungary has warned that mass migration creates a good opportunity for terrorists to sneak into Europe, he recalled, addinng that the terror threat as a result has increased.
