“Some of our neighbouring countries don’t make very friendly actions regarding the Hungarian minority,” says Janos Lazar, the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office at his annual hearing of the National Security Committee of the Hungarian Parliament.
The main topic of the Tuesday hearing was Mr Lazar’s comments on the actions of the Ukrainian, the Romanian and the Croatian government. He said Hungary can’t help to people living on the other side of the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, Zakkarpatia Oblast, because of the Ukrainian government’s obstruction. Hungary’s is interested in Zakkarpatia Oblast as he 12 percent of its population is Hungarian. They are the biggest minority group of the area.
Mr Lazar also mentioned Romania where “show trials” are under their way to make many people of the Hungarian minority a criminal. Plus, historical churches are attacked, as well. The rate of Hungarians in Romania is 6.5 percent regarding the country overall, but if you see only Transylvania, their percentage is much higher, over 19 percent.
As for Croatia, the minister reminded of the MOL-INA case when the Croatian government wanted to make charges against the Hungarian oil company’s whole general staff.
