Prime Minister Viktor Orban has sent his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the deaths of the 71 people who were on board the passenger plane that crashed near Moscow over the weekend, the PM's press chief told MTI.

"I was deeply shocked to hear of the many lives claimed by the disaster of the passenger plane flying from to Moscow to Orsk," Orban wrote to Putin. "I share with the Hungarian people the pain of the victims' families. Please accept my sincere condolences," the letter said.

The Saratov Airlines An-148 jet was en route to Orsk when it vanished from the radars four minutes after takeoff. All 65 passengers and six crew members were killed in the crash.
